A former Clovis resident said she was dismayed to find out her mother was robbed close to Christmas.
Candace Johnson said her mother, Mildred Tyler, was at work Tuesday when a thief picked a back door lock at her house on Dartmouth Street and quickly made off with a television, laptop computer and jewelry a theft of at least $1,000.
Johnson, who lives in Hawaii because her husband is stationed there with the Navy, said she found out about the robbery from a phone call and wanted to at least get the word out.
“My mom works all the time,” Johnson said. “She’s a really positive lady, lived in Clovis all of her life, thinks of others. I’m in Hawaii and I can’t do anything.”
Sgt. Daron Roach of the Clovis Police Department confirmed a report was filed for the theft. He said fingerprints were found, but that usually only helps if the person was already in a fingerprint database for a previous crime.
Roach noted that during the holidays, theft always rises, whether it’s stealing a package left at the door, a present in a car or even somebody leaving the trunk open for a minute while they make multiple trips to bring in groceries or other purchases.
