This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Northeast
Charette Lakes: Closed for the season.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday was 4.8 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Clayton Lake: Closed for the season.
Conchas Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: There is a thin layer of ice on the lake at this time and no fishing permitted. Contact the State Park office at (575) 377-1594 for updated conditions.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: As of Monday there was a thin layer of ice on the lake.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was slow to fair using white and red Gulp eggs and assorted colors of Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on perch.
Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using salmon peach and orange Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for the season.
Mt View Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 29 cfs. Trout fishing in the Villanueva area was slow but there were a few fish caught by anglers using salmon eggs.
Red River: Water flow near the hatchery on Monday was 53 cfs. Trout fishing was fair using tungsten jig head nymphs, poundmeisters, copper John Barrs and salmon eggs.
Rio Costilla: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday was 633 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 11 cfs. Trout fishing was slow.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 5.9 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. There is a thin layer of ice forming on the lake in the overnight hours but clearing during the day. Call the state park office at (505) 425-7278 for updated conditions.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing for white bass and walleye was a bit sporadic this last week as several anglers reported catching limits while others zeroed. Anglers did best using slab spoons and blade baits in 30 to 35 feet of water. Anglers jigging slab spoons also picked up a few catfish. A few smallmouth bass were caught by anglers working buck tail jigs and blade baits at 20 feet. We had no on other species. Fishing pressure was light. The surface water temp ranged from the high 40s to around 50 degrees.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was extremely light.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 182 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing on the Belen Drain was fair to good drifting salmon eggs and worms under a bobber for trout. We had no reports on other species. Fishing on the Albuquerque Drain was good using salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from the other drains.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using hot dogs, large streamers and in-line spinners for tiger musky. We had no reports on other species. As of Monday morning there was a layer of skim ice on the lake. For updated ice conditions contact the State Park office at (505) 876-2391. Anglers should be aware that it is illegal to use bait fish, alive or dead, at this lake.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 219 cfs and 175 cfs respectively. Trout fishing below El Vado was fair to good using salmon eggs, night crawlers, wooly buggers and copper John Barrs. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair using worms, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs and salmon eggs.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: A layer of ice has formed on the lake and it is closed to ice fishing. Put this one back on your list for great fishing early next spring.
Heron Lake: Kokanee snagging was very good this past weekend. Pressure was light but the anglers who were here had a great time. The best areas were near the dam and in the Ridge Rock area. We had no reports on other species.
Jackson Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and Kastmasters. We had no reports on other species.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez as of Monday was 25 cfs. Fishing on the Jemez River was fair using copper John Barrs and salmon eggs. Fishing on the Cebolla was slow to fair using night crawlers and salmon eggs. We had no reports from the other streams in the area.
Laguna Del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing for northern pike was slow but there were a few caught by anglers using jerk baits and crank baits. Fishing for smallmouth bass was slow to fair using jigs, tubes and worms. A few rainbow trout were caught by anglers using Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
San Gregorio: We had no reports from anglers.
San Juan River: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday was 357 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using foam wing emergers, fluff baetis, zebra midges, San Juan worms, egg patterns and small bead-head pheasant tails. There were some strong midge hatches in the early afternoon hours. Fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using salmon eggs, copper John Barrs and San Juan worms.
Santa Cruz Lake: This water has closed to boating and will remain closed until mid-July of 2015. The only fishing access will be from the overlook, which will remain open. The Bureau of Land Management will be renovating the north lake campground, boat launch, picnic area and main access road. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was good using marshmallows, Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. Trout fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair using zebra midges and bead-head pheasant tails.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Southwest
Bear Canyon: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using garlic-scented Power Bait and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair using slab spoons and blade baits for white bass. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was slow. We had no reports on other species.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair using orange and rainbow Power Bait, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes and Kastmasters for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Gila River: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 75 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Percha Dam: Fishing was slow for all species.
Quemado Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
Rio Grande: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 2.5 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: Fishing was very good using red, chartreuse and green Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Southeast
Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 100 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs for trout.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was fair to good using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. Anglers did best with the Power Bait floating just off the bottom. We had no reports on other species.
Bonito Lake: Closed.
Bosque Redondo: Fishing was fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using tubes for largemouth bass. We had no reports on other species. Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chaparral Park Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was fair using salmon eggs for trout.
Eunice Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs and salmon peach and chartreuse Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was fair using small spoons, salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. The best reports were from anglers using Power Bait.
Grindstone Reservoir: Trout fishing was fair to good for anglers using Power Bait and salmon eggs.
Jal Lake: Fishing was fair using worms, Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Lake Van: A recent golden algae bloom has resulted in a fish kill and stocking has been temporarily halted.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was very good using marshmallows and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Perch Lake: Fishing was fair using Power Bait and Pistol Petes for trout.
Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 17 cfs. Fishing below Sumner was fair using Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 20 cfs. We had no reports from anglers.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
