Staff report

Clovis police have taken two “persons of interest” into custody in connection with the Nov. 9 slaying of a Clovis mom.

Police Capt. Patrick Whitney said police at 4:50 p.m. Friday brought Lloyd Bagwell, 22, and Shannon Buckmaster, 20, into custody “for questioning only” after receiving an anonymous tip. The pair were located in the 900 block of Mitchell Street, Whitney said.

Whitney said Buckmaster has outstanding warrants as a probation absconder and for felony drug possession. She will be booked into Curry County jail, according to Whitney.

He said there are no warrants against Bagwell that he knows about.

Police identified Bagwell and Buckmaster as two people they wanted to speak with earlier this week in connection with the stabbing death of Ariel Ulibarri. They have not described either as a suspect in the homicide.

Whitney said in a press release late Friday that investigators will try to question the pair, who may have information pertaining to the homicide investigation.

Whitney thanked the community, saying investigators received dozens of tips in response to their public call for help in locating Bagwell and Buckmaster.

Ulibarri was found dead at the Goodwin Lake walking trail. Her 6-year-old son told police a man he did not know had approached his mother along the trail. She told her son to “run,” and he ran to the trail’s parking lot. The boy then led another man to the scene where his mother had been killed.

Whitney stressed the case is an ongoing homicide investigation and anyone with any information should contact police. Citizens may use TipSoft to provide this information and remain anonymous. Text users can send their tip to: "CRIMES" (274637) with the keyword TIPCPD. In other words, citizens can text "TIPCPD plus their crime tip" to 274637 (CRIMES). Curry County Crime Stoppers and an anonymous group of area citizens have combined to offer $15,000 as reward money. The cash is for information that leads to the arrest of the person, or persons, responsible for the stabbing death of Ulibarri.
