The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team went on a scoring rampage Sunday to ensure a third consecutive winning season.
Five players scored for the Greyhounds, who had Lubbock Christian blanked until the final two minutes in a season-ending 5-1 win over the Chaparrals at the ENMU pitch.
The Hounds went 6-1-2 over the their final nine matches to finish the year at 7-6-3 under first-year coach and former ENMU player Tyler Hart. They took control of the game early against an opponent they had tied 2-2 on Oct. 2 at Lubbock.
Midfielder Abayneh Crosby, one of five seniors playing their final collegiate match, put the Hounds on the board in the 23rd minute with his fifth goal of the season. Junior forward Alexis Medina, junior midfielders Carlos Viveros and Roberto Zatarain and sophomore midfielder Jose Hernandez each scored his second goal of the season as the Hounds gradually extended their lead.
The Chaps (9-6-1) averted a shutout when Elijah Madzikatire got one in the net with 76 seconds left.
Freshmen James Gutierrez and Andreas Ahlberg combined for five saves in goal for the Hounds.
