Clovis man guilty of sexual assault

Staff report

Daniel Bayless, 51, of Clovis was found guilty Thursday by a Curry County jury of the August 2013 sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, according to a press release issued late Friday by District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

The release said Bayless faces a mandatory 18 years in prison, must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, and will have another year added due to prior felony narcotics trafficking convictions.

Bayless assaulted the victim after she fell asleep watching a movie, the release said.

“We are pleased with the verdict and hope the victim will get some closure from this terrible assault,” Reeb said. “No child should have to go through what she did, and our office will continue to aggressively prosecute child predators like Daniel Bayless.”

Defense attorney Michael Garrett wasn’t immediately available for comment.
