Zias lose at Angelo, drop out of LSC lead

Staff report

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Ashley Exford scored early in the second half and Angelo State made it stand up for a 2-1 win over Eastern New Mexico University on Friday, dropping the Zias out of the Lone Star Conference women’s soccer lead.

Senior defender Victoria Perez notched her fifth goal of the season for the Zias (7-6, 4-3) about midway through the second half, but they couldn’t get the equalizer.

ENMU junior defender Melissa Moxley was given a red card after Exford’s goal and the zias played shorthanded the rest of the way.

ENMU defeated the then-unbeaten Rambelles (11-3-1, 4-3-1) 2-0 at home on Oct. 12, but fell into third place with the loss behind Texas A&M-Commerce (10-5, 5-3) and ASU in the tightly-bunched LSC race.
