Zias beat Falcons to snap streak

With 19 kills, Eastern New Mexico University sophomore Lauren Frye had almost as many as the Texas-Permian Basin team Wednesday while leading the Zias to a 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 non-conference win at Greyhound Stadium.

Lindsey Barron and Courtney Lawson added seven kills apiece as ENMU (9-11) snapped a four-match losing streak.

Senior Kennedi Catano had 28 of the Zias’ 42 assists and is now 27 assists shy of surpassing Stacey Estlund for third on the program's career list.

UTUB (8-1) finished the game with 21 kills and 18 errors.

The Zias trailed early13-9 in the first game before they scored seven straight points to take control of the game.

In the second game the Zias were down early 9-5, but climbed back in the game with a 9-1 run. With the game tied at 20, Frye had two kills and Barron added another as the Zias took the game.

In the third game, the Zias led from start to finish.

Defensively, freshman Andrea Aguilar set season-highs in digs (17) and service aces. Lawson added 11 digs and two blocks as well. Agatha Gibbons led the squad with three blocks, all assisted.

ENMU ended the night with 43 kills on a .242 attack percentage and had seven service aces while holding UTPB to 21 kills and a hitting percentage of .032.
