Zias post first soccer win at WT

Staff report

CANYON, Texas — Junior defender Melissa Moxley scored late in the first half and the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team made it stand up for a 1-0 Lone Star Conference victory over West Texas A&M on Friday night.

The victory was the first at WT in program history for the Zias (5-4, 2-1 LSC), and also marked the first time they’ve won back-to-back road games in the program’s 11-year history.

ENMU has a 5-10-1 overall record against the Lady Buffs (4-6, 1-2), but has posted two wins and a tie in the past three matchups.

Moxley scored on a free kick with just over 13 1/2 minutes left in the half.

Senior Fabienne Wilson earned her third career shutout and first this season, making three saves in goal for the Zias. WT’s Nicole Kemper made five saves in the match.

ENMU returns to action with a 3 p.m. LSC contest against Midwestern State on Friday at the ENMU pitch, the beginning of a three-match homestand.
