The Steel Magnolias will perform a free concert Saturday night at Clovis’ Central Christian Church.

A night of southern gospel music is set for Clovis this weekend, as the Steel Magnolias are coming to Clovis.

The San Marcos, Texas-based group is scheduled to perform 7 p.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church as part of a whirlwind 10-day stretch of it’s “READY!” Mission Tour through New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

The fall tour includes a live television broadcast with KCHF in Santa Fe.

Though the Clovis show has no admission and no love offering, the group that is an offshoot of Debbie Daniel Ministries of San Marcos that does a healthy amount of charity work.

According to a release from the group, the Steel Magnolias have collected more than $10,000 and 4,500 pounds of food for their county food bank and helped raised $25,000 for the Wounded Warriors of Operation Comfort in San Antonio.

Additionally, the group has performed benefit concerts in Brooklyn for a church damaged by lightning; in Galveston, Texas, in the aftermatch of Hurricane Ike; for residents of West, Texas, following a fertilizer plant explosion; and in Moore, Oklahoma, following a devastating tornado.

The group has also performed at the Grand Ole Opry and toured through most of the southern half of the United States, and covered 3,100 miles and six states during a 16-day tour to Kentucky last year.

The evening show is the second of the day for the Steel Magnolias, who have a 10 a.m. (CDT) show at Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas. From Friday to Oct. 12, the group will perform at 23 functions (20 of them concerts) in 17 cities.
