Cats, Jaguars tied at halftime

Staff report

ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High dominated much of the first half, but the Wildcats were locked in a 7-7 halftime tie with Atrisco Heritage on Saturday at Community Stadium.

The Cats (1-1) took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards in just over five minutes, capped by senior Juan San Juan’s 5-yard touchdown run. Luke Bussen kicked the extra point.

Clovis outgained the Jaguars 134-83 in the half, but Atrisco (0-2) managed to pull even late in the half on a 49-yard TD run and PAT kick by Aaron Bean.

The Cats limited Atrisco to just 12 plays from scrimmage in the first half, but the Jaguars stayed in it with the help of two pass interceptions, including one in the end zone.
