Lobo women drop final game in Italy

The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team are leaving Italy with nearly 17 hours of travel ahead of them and a 2-2 record during their 10-day tour.
The Netherlands National Team took a 54-41 win Wednesday night to score a sweep in the back-to-back games. The Dutch beat UNM 53-44 Tuesday.
“I thought this was a great trip for us,” head coach Yvonne Sanchez said. “We played four tough games, which were good for us. And we were able to spend a lot of time together — just like a family because that’s what we are. I couldn’t be more proud of our girls both on and off the court.”
Netherlands took control in the the third quarter after the squads played to 28-all in the first half.
Freshman Cherise Beynon led the Lobos with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Senior and Clovis native Antiesha Brown added 10 points and four rebounds, while post Khadijah Shumper had eight points and nine boards.
Prior to the game, the Lobos visited Vatican City.
