Three schools in the Clovis Municipal School district have received new science labs this summer.
The Freshman Academy, Yucca Middle School and Marshall Middle School are in the final stages of construction of their labs, according to CMS Operations Director John King.
King said 17 science lab classrooms have been updated with new shelving, sinks, plumbing and water heaters.
The $2.5 million project is funded by a $20 million general obligation bond approved May 2013, King said.
“Teachers that use the classrooms were involved in the design process,” King said.
The rooms have more storage for lab equipment as well as larger prep rooms and expanded custodial closets to house larger equipment.
The construction, which began shortly after school let out for the summer, is expected be finished about three days before classes start, King said.
King said construction is on schedule and the labs are 95 percent done.
Construction crews and custodians will be busy next week as the rooms are furnished with new tables, chairs, burners and white boards, King said.
Marshall Principal Jay Brady said the schools are blessed to have the new labs.
Brady said the schools are getting what they need to benefit the children.
Brady said the new equipment and facilities will improve the learning experience for the children.
Brady said he was particularly happy about the improved full-spectrum lighting installed in the new labs.
“We are blessed to live in a community that gets what is needed for the children,” Brady said.
