Ned Houk to host state motocross

Ned Houk Park will be the scene of the New Mexico state motocross championships on Sunday.

NHP motocross manager Bob Vilandry said Friday that from 250 to 300 riders are expected to complete in 35 classes. Ages of the drivers range from 4 to over 50.

Riders will be in the area from around the state, including some from surrounding states, for practice sessions today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and continue until mid-afternoon.

Vilandry said the event has stayed about the same in numbers since it’s been here.

“The price of fuel probably affects some (would-be competitors),” he said. “But people around here don’t want to miss any races if possible.”

The state motocross season runs from April through October, Vilandry said. Meantime, motocross races are conducted once a month at Ned Houk from January until November.

Admission to Sunday’s races free for children under 6, $5 for ages 7-13 and $10 for 14 and older.
