Grand jury indicts Clovis slaying suspect

A Curry County grand jury indicted 40-year-old Eric Valdez of Clovis on Friday on charges of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.
Valdez is accused of shooting Jose Barrera, 33, of Tucumcari in the head earlier this month in a vacant apartment on Sheldon Street in Clovis.
According to the release:
•l Barrera’s body was discovered by the property manager on July 7.
• Valdez was arrested July 11 after he confessed to the crime.
• Valdez is in custody at the Curry County Adult Detention Center and will be arraigned next week in District Court.
