The Water Policy Advisory Board unanimously approved the purchase of six rain gauges during a regular meeting Tuesday morning at City Hall.
The purchase will cost the board approximately $150.
Water Policy Advisory Board members Randy Crowder and John Montano were absent from the meeting.
The purchase of the rain gauges was spurred by a presentation given by Erik Nelson, vice chairman of the El Llano Estacado Resource, Conservation & Development Council.
Founded in 1969, the council encompasses a land area of 18,064 square miles; including Union, Harding, Quay, Guadalupe, De Baca, Curry and Roosevelt counties.
The council has recently began to participate in the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network; a non-profit program of the National Weather Service.
CoCoRaHS enlists volunteers to document and report the precipitation in their backyards.
CoCoRaHS volunteers must be willing to undergo training and to report moisture observations every day via a computer or by phone, according to an El Llano Estacado RC&D press release.
Raymond Mondragon, economic and community development planner with Eastern Plains Council of Governments, said there is much debate about just how much rain fell last week in Clovis.
