Clovis man convicted of drug charges

A Clovis man was found guilty Friday of a pair of drug charges.

Scott Allen Foster, 38, was remanded into custody on a $75,000 cash only bond. He faces between 22 and 39 years in prison for charges of trafficking controlled substances and conspiracy to traffic controlled substances.

Sentencing will be held at a later date.

Defense attorney Randall Harris called the case, “a travesty to the criminal justice system,” and that he and Foster will appeal the ruling.

Harris said law enforcement actions that led to Foster’s arrest were a farce and not credible, and that the case never should have reached a jury, let alone resulted in a guilty verdict.

According to a release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s office:

• Foster orchestrated a sale of crack cocaine in late 2012 to what turned out to be a confidential information in an ongoing sting operation by the Region V Drug Task Force.

• A Curry County jury deliberated for about an hour before reaching its verdict.
