Love consistency of tradition

Portales is a city about tradition and I like that, so I started one of my own with a few friends here.

Every time a Friday the 13th occurs, about once or twice a year, we have a scary movie marathon.

Sure, it’s not a unique tradition, but I love the consistency I’ve been able to share with my friends, specifically fellow CMI writer Alisa Boswell.link Christina Calloway

We embrace the cheesiness, yet authenticity, of old films. We love that newer filmmakers try to compete. We always watch at least one old film, typically anything before the early 1990s, and a more recent film.

We get in our comfiest pajamas and make sure we have plenty of blankets. We pop the popcorn and stock up on all the gooey snacks that stick to your teeth.

Once we’re settled in, I try to be a big, brave dog but there are a few scenes I have to watch between my fingers.

Without fail, Alisa always has to walk me to my car after the midnight madness. I might also sleep with the light on, but all of it goes with the tradition and I love it.

So going on two-and-a-half years here, I’m actually excited for Roosevelt County’s Heritage Days. I know what to expect, yet I feel like something better is brought each year. There’s a pride in this county and it shows because you all do tradition right.
