Doris Skoog Wallace

I grew up in Illinois and became an art teacher at Northern Illinois University. After a teaching a year in Illinois, I moved to Clovis as did my dad’s sister Eldie Skoog Johnson, did so years before.

I taught elementary art at Center School, Lincoln Jackson, Eugene Field and La Casita. When art didn’t fit the school budget for elementary schools, in the 1960’s, I went to Marshall Junior High.

I taught at Marshall for six years; also at CCC in the evening. With lots of energy, I started the Out of Sight Ceramic Shop in 1970. Working at school daytime and the ceramic shop evenings and weekends.

In 1963, I transferred to Clovis High School. It was a wonderful move, but you have to work hard to maintain standards and give more time and effort to inspire students.

I retired from Clovis Municipal Schools in 1994 after 32 years, a great marriage to Jerry Wallace, two fine daughters and two fine granddaughters. The ceramic shop closed in 2011.
