Meetings watch: Roosevelt County Commission

Roosevelt County Commission

The following took place at Tuesday’s Roosevelt County Commission at the Portales City Council Chambers at the Memorial Building:

• The county burn ban was removed because of the recent rains the county has received. Commission Chairman Kendell Buzard said it would be the safest time to allow burning in the county. Buzard said the ban could be enacted again if the county becomes dry again.

• Approval of a request by the Road Department’s Super-intendent Ricky Lovato to dispose two international dump trucks by auction. Lovato said the trucks were very old and some of the parts for the trucks cannot be found to repair the them.

• Tabling of a notice of intent to adopt an ordinance which will change procedures on the recording of taxes on property divided or combined prior to the recodation of the plat or deed. This ordinance was tabled at the last meeting so that the county’s assessor’s and treasurer’s office could go over the ordinance with the county’s attorney Rick Queener. Both of the offices need clarification on the new procedures on how the county handles the subdivision exemptions and compliances with Senate Bill 406. The two offices never met with Queener, so the notice of intent was moved to the next meeting.

• Roosevelt County Detention Center Administrator David Casanova reported 112 inmates in the detention center, including 94 males, 18 females, six inmates from Eddy, two from Curry and Colfax and two juveniles from Quay County.
