ENMU College National Finals Rodeo qualifiers

This is the first of a five-part series on Eastern New Mexico University’s College National Finals Rodeo qualifiers, scheduled to run through the rest of the week. The CNFR begins next Monday and runs through June 21 at Casper, Wyo.

How did you get started in rodeo?

I'm actually a first generation cowgirl, so I'm not 100 percent sure how I got started. My dad had an old ranch horse and I started barrel racing a few local rodeos. After that, I was hooked.

What most appeals to you about the sport?

I love the competition. It’s such a rush to compete. I also love that the sport is always evolving, so there’s always things to work on to make yourself a tougher competitor.

What types of things to you enjoy doing away from rodeo?

I really don’t have many other hobbies. I didn’t play any other sports in high school, but I do really enjoy editing videos and pictures.

What is your most memorable rodeo experience?

There are a few pretty memorable experiences that I’ve had, but this past year at the college rodeos has been amazing. I won the breakaway at one rodeo, the all around at another, and made the college finals which has been a dream and goal of mine since I was little.

What are your plans after graduation from college?

After college, I’d like to move home to Alberta, Canada and pursue a career in marketing. I’m not exactly sure what that’s going to be yet, though. I’m also going to continue to rope and ride horses as much as l can.
