United Way seeking volunteers for 'chiller' project

Staff report

United Way of Eastern New Mexico is seeking volunteers and donations to help make and distribute innovative bucket chillers to families in need of heat relief.

A $25 donation will pay for materials needed to build one unit, according to a press release from United Way. The unit consists of a five-gallon plastic bucket, insulating foam, PVC pipe and a small fan.

United Way is hosting simultaneous events June 21 in Clovis and Portales for volunteers to assemble the chiller units. Volunteers will gather in Clovis from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Matt 25 Hope Center. The Portales build is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at City Park.

Volunteers or those wishing to donate cash can call 211. A video demonstration of the chiller units can be seen on the United Way of Eastern New Mexico You Tube channel or Facebook page.
