'Adult entertainment' could be headed to Curry County

Staff report

Curry County Manager Lance Pyle on Tuesday confirmed an individual has asked officials “about putting an adult entertainment business in the county.”

“We are currently reviewing state statute and county ordinance,” Pyle said when asked about the possibility of a strip club. Pyle said he told the individual to get back to him later this week.

The application for a business license needed to operate the proposed club has not been completed; once it is done, Pyle said he would be able to give more information.

Pyle said the man told him the proposed club would be located about a mile east of Clovis’ city limits.

Pyle also noted that Curry County is “dry,” meaning the sale of alcohol is not permitted in unincorporated areas of the county.

According to the Clovis Gentlemen’s Club Facebook page, created June 4, a lease has been signed for a possible strip club. The anonymous person behind the Facebook page says an inquiry was made Thursday about the license needed to operate the business.

The Facebook page states the strip club will have its grand opening Oct. 31, and is set to begin accepting applications for personnel — including bouncers and dancers — on Oct. 1.

Pyle confirmed an individual visited the Curry County courthouse Thursday to ask about opening the club.

This is the first time Pyle said he has been approached about the establishment of a strip club in the county. He’s been with Curry County since 1998.
