ENMU Writers' Retreat registration ends soon

Staff report

There are only three weeks left to register for Eastern New Mexico University Writers’ Retreat, according to a university press release. Registration ends on May 31.

The retreat will be held in two-and-a-half hour workshops, Monday through Friday, during June 2-13. The workshops will be held on ENMU’s campus at Lea Hall in room 137.

There will also be readings, music, field trips and barbecues during the evenings and on the weekends.

The workshops will be split into two genres, poetry and fiction, and writers can either focus on one or sign up for both.

The teachers are Jeff Parker who will be teaching fiction and Kevin Coval who will be teaching poetry.

Parker is the author of the novel “Ovenman” and the story collection “The Taste of Penny.” His fiction and nonfiction works have appeared in “American Short Fiction,” “The Best American Nonrequired Reading,” and other publications.

Coval is the author of “Schtick,” “A Hip-Hop Poetica,” and several others books. Coval is the founder of Louder than a Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival, artistic director at Young Chicago Authors and teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
