PHS golf squads finish third in district

ROSWELL — Portales High’s golf squads finished third in District 3-1A/3A competition on Monday.

Sophomore Bailey Rowley will be the only PHS player advancing to state competition next Monday and Tuesday at the New Mexico State University course in Las Cruces.

Rowley led the Lady Rams on Monday, shooting a score of 90. Portales finished at 423, behind Texico (354) and Lovington (355).

Other scores for the Lady Rams included Kambrey Blakey 107, Alexis Montoya 110 and Kelsey Montiel and Janae Hale 116.

For the boys, the Rams shot a season-best 334 to finish behind Lovington and host New Mexico Military, and ahead of Jal.

Freshman Andrew Underbrink, who had two of the necessary three legs to qualify for state, led the way at 41-37 — 78 while junior Ty Bergman shot 39-40 — 79.

Other scores for the Rams included Jory Nix 39-48 — 87, Jordan Baros 43-47 — 90 and Jonathan Randall 48-45 — 93.
