The April 11 meeting of El Portal chapter was held at the home of Alice Bischoff. Regent Vicky Stratton called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. and conducted the opening rituals followed by the president general’s message. It was reported that there were 13,906 members approved in 2013, the most since 1926. The National Defense minute, Constitutional minute and Conservation minute were read by members. During the state conference, El Portal Chapter received several awards, including the most broadcasting minutes, literacy, scholarship programs and project patriot. Our state regent’s project, Henderson House, received an award for outstanding service for veterans. Nancy Bauder presented the program about President James Garfield, who was assassinated by a deranged man in 1881.
