PHS girls tennis squad claims win

LOVINGTON — The Portales Lady Rams posted their second District 3-1A/3A dual victory on Thursday night, winning four of six singles matches to edge Lovington 5-4.

In boys competition, the Wildcats went 5-1 in singles and handed PHS a 6-3 setback.

Samantha Lopez and Belle Youngerwolf won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to give the Lady Rams (1-1 district) the team win. Jessie Privett, Hannah Evans, Youngerwolf and McKenzie Bucksath all posted wins in singles.

The lone win for Portales in boys singles came from Austin Lucero at No. 1, a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) decision over Christian Crawford. Lucero and Nathan Van Dam teamed up for a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 win over Crawford and Cameron Insulan at No. 1 doubles, and Ethan Self and Adam Swisher-Hernandez earned a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over the Wildcats’ Reid Figueroa and Devin Crockett at No. 3 doubles.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. non-district home dual against Raton.
