This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and the Department of Game and Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Northeast

Charette Lakes: Trout fishing was sporadic but there were some good fish caught by anglers using Power Bait. We had no reports on perch. Cimarron River: Stream flow below Eagle Nest on Monday was 3.0 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using mayfly emergers, worms and salmon eggs. Clayton Lake: Trout fishing was very good using wooly buggers, Pistol Petes, spoons and Power Bait. Anglers did well fishing from boats and from the bank. Fishing for all other species was slow. Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jerk baits, tubes, crank baits and spinner baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using minnows, crank baits and spinner-night crawler rigs for white bass and walleye. Fishing was fair using minnows for crappie. We had no reports on other species. Coyote Creek: Fishing was fair to good using Power Bait for trout. Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for rainbow trout. Anglers fishing from the bank and from anchored boats in the shallows did best. Fishing was slow to fair using clousers in the shallows for northern pike. We had no reports on other species. Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week. Lake Maloya: Trout fishing was very good using Power Bait, worms, homemade dough bait, Pistol Petes, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs and Panther Martin spinners. The fish ranged in size from 10 to 15 inches. Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week. Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Maxwell Lake 13: Trout fishing was very good using Power Bait, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes, Panther Martins, Fisher Chick spinners and small Daredevles. We had no reports on other species. Monastery Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Morphy Lake: Fishing was very good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and homemade dough bait for trout. The boat ramp remains closed due to low water conditions.Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 82 cfs. The Bert Clancy and Terrero campgrounds will open April 18. Trout fishing was rated as fair by anglers using worms, salmon eggs and Power Bait. Red River: Water flow near the hatchery on Monday was 60 cfs. Trout fishing was good using WD40s, copper John Barrs, mayfly emergers and bead-head hares ears. Rio Costilla: Luis Roybal reported good trout fishing here. He was good using salmon eggs and night crawlers Rio Grande: Water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge on Monday was 317 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using copper John Barrs, BWOs, spinners and worms. We had no reports on other species. Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 18 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Rio Mora: Stream flow near Terrero on Monday was 27 cfs. Fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs and worms for trout. Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 47 cfs. Fishing was slow due to the high flows. Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week. Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season. Springer Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jointed swim baits and Rat L Traps for northern pike. We had no reports on other species. Storrie Lake: Fishing was good using salmon peach Power Bait for trout. One angler using Power Bait also caught a catfish.

Ute Lake: Fishing was good using jerk baits, crank baits, jigs, tubes and senkos for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good trolling crank baits and spinner-minnow combinations for walleye. Fishing was fair trolling crank baits for white bass. Fishing was very good near the marina using minnows for crappie. The surface water temp ranged from the mid to high 50s.

Northwest

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few smallmouth bass and trout caught by anglers using minnows and crank baits. The surface water temp ranged from the mid to high 40s. Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 723 cfs.We had no reports from anglers this week.Albuquerque Area Drains: We had one really good report this week. Andrew Orlicky of Albuquerque fished the Albuquerque South Drain on Sunday and caught and released seven rainbow trout, two largemouth bass, one sucker and one bluegill. He was using worms. There are plenty of fish in the drains, which can provide good fishing fun throughout the year. Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jerk baits, large streamers and crank baits for tiger musky. We had no reports on other species. Anglers should be aware that it is illegal to use bait fish at this lake. Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week. Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week. Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 316 cfs and 602 cfs respectively. High stream flows slowed fishing at both locations. Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, spinner baits and jerk baits for northern pike. We had no reports on other species. El Vado Lake: The state park and the boat ramp opened today. We had no reports from anglers. Fenton Lake: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, Power Bait, worms and Pistol Petes. One angler fishing the east shore reported catching and releasing 40 fish. Heron Lake: Fishing from the bank and from boats was slow this past week. We heard of two brown trout caught by anglers trolling Rapalas and one small lake trout caught on a jig and cut bait combo. The lake level continues to rise but four wheel drive was still recommended for launching at the primitive ramp. Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez as of Monday was 82 cfs. Fishing was slow. Fishing on the Cebolla was slow to fair using worms. Fishing pressure was light. We had no reports from the other Jemez streams. The East Fork and the San Antonio stretches on the Valles Caldera are expected to open in May. Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season. Lake Farmington: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait, spinners and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species. Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow but there were a few smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and northern pike caught by anglers using jigs, tubes, crank baits and jerk baits. Fishing for crappie was slow to fair using small jigs. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp ranged from the mid to high 40s. San Gregorio: We had no reports from anglers this week. San Juan: Water flow below Navajo on Monday was 348 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using disco midges, black and gray foam wing emergers, red larva, chamois leeches and red San Juan worms. Fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using jerk baits, spinners, salmon eggs, Gulp eggs and San Juan worms. Santa Cruz Lake: Trout fishing was good for anglers using small crank baits, Pistol Petes, Power bait, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and worms. Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Youth and Central Ponds was very good using Power Bait, salmon eggs, homemade dough bait, Pistol Petes, copper John Barrs and small spoons. Fishing on the Catch and Release Pond was fair using leech patterns and small streamers.

Southwest

Bear Canyon: Juan S. Sanchez was fishing here last week with three other anglers and the group caught 10 trout and 2 catfish. They were using worms and Power Bait for the trout and night crawlers for the catfish. Other anglers reported catching a few trout while using salmon eggs and worms. Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and homemade dough bait. A few catfish were caught by anglers using night crawlers. We had no reports on other species. Largemouth bass fishing should be picking up here. Give it a try and let us know how you do. Caballo Lake: Fishing was fair to good using spinner-minnow combinations, floating night crawlers and crank baits for walleye. Fishing was good using crank baits, minnows and grubs for white bass. We had no reports on other species. Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was fair to good using minnows, jigs and grubs for crappie. Fishing was slow to fair using tubes, crank baits, jerk baits and spinner baits for largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using crank baits and jerk baits for white bass. Fishing for catfish was fair using cut bait, shrimp, hot dogs and night crawlers. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp was in the low 60s. The Marina Del Sur, Rock Canyon and Dam Site marinas are open. Escondida Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Gila River: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 70 cfs. We had no reports from anglers. Glenwood Pond: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait. Lake Roberts: A construction project to improve the dam has begun and extremely low lake levels make it increasingly difficult to fish. The project is expected to continue into the summer. The lake is still open to bank fishing but difficult to access. Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week. Quemado Lake: Fishing was fair using worms, Power Bait and spinners for trout. We had no reports on tiger musky. Rio Grande: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 1.3 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Snow Lake: Trout fishing was slow.

Young Pond: Fishing was fair using worms, Pistol Petes and Power Bait for a mixed bag of crappie and trout. We had no reports on other species.

Southeast

Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 41 cfs. Fishing was slow. Blue Hole Park Pond: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait, homemade dough bait and Pistol Petes. Bonito Lake: Closed. Bosque Redondo: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait and worms. We had no reports on other species. Bottomless Lakes: Trout fishing was slow and fishing pressure was very light. Brantley Lake: Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. We had no reports from anglers this week. Carlsbad Municipal Lake: The water level has been lowered for shoreline and dock work. The winter trout stocking has been diverted to Bataan Lake. Chaparral Park Lake: Trout fishing was fair using homemade dough bait, Power Bait and salmon eggs. El Rito Creek: Trout fishing was good using worms, salmon eggs, homemade dough bait and Power Bait. Eunice Lake: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait. Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was slow for all species but there were a few trout caught by anglers using worms. Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was slow and fishing pressure was light. Grindstone Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week. Jal Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and Power Bait. Lake Van: We had no reports from anglers this week. Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using worms for catfish. We had no reports on other species. Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 79 cfs. Fishing was good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species. Perch Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 6 cfs. Trout fishing was fair using worms. Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing continued to be very slow for all species. Anglers fishing a bass tournament here over the weekend zeroed with the exception of one catfish. The water remains quite murky.

Sumner Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using a variety of crank baits for a mixed bag of walleye and white bass. We had no reports on other species.
