Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

I haven’t fully watched the movie “Yes Man” but from what I have seen — I reiterate — balance is the key to nearly everything in life.
If you typically say no, it’s time to start saying yes. If you say yes too often, I’m sure I’m not the first to tell you that it’s OK to say no now and then.

This past weekend I was saying yes to prove a point.
For all of us who have said there’s nothing to do in Portales, stop. While I know not every weekend is packed with goings-on, the newspaper’s events calendar had tons of things to do this weekend. I decided to say yes.
I felt like a wedding crasher in the sense that I was showing up to events, whether I knew people there or not. I saw the opening night of “Little Shop of Horrors” at Portales High School and genuinely enjoyed the show.
Saturday, I went to a friend’s recital at Eastern New Mexico University, which focused on the history of music and rhythm and I was rocking in my seat. I followed the recital with a rap show at the Yam Theatre.
I think my point is we should stop complaining about nothing to do without saying yes first. And if you’re thoroughly disappointed in what the community has to offer, I guess it couldn’t hurt to add a few more grouches to the J.P. Stone Community Bank signs that greet you when you ride into Portales.
