Cleveland shuts out Lady Rams

Staff report

SANTA ROSA — Portales High’s normally robust bats were held in check on Saturday.

Rio Rancho Cleveland senior Brooke Hodgson pitched a three-hitter and the Storm pulled away late for a 5-0 win over the Lady Rams in a game played at Santa Rosa H.S.

Cleveland actually played two games on Saturday, beating Clovis 7-4 in the first half of the neutral-field twin bill.

“We just didn’t hit the ball very well,” PHS coach Robbie Crowley said. “You’re going to have those days.”

The Lady Rams (6-3) were in the hunt until the sixth inning, when a two-run double by sophomore Paboucek Lindsey keyed a three-run Storm outburst.

Sophomore Kiersten Ramirez took the loss in the circle, giving up six hits.

Senior Valerie Villanueva and juniors Kassandra Rodriguez and Kailee Ramirez each managed hits for the Lady Rams.

Portales returns to action on Monday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Loving.
