Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Although writing has always been my personal artistic outlet of choice, today I will explore a new canvas in the kitchen.

I’ve had this desire to cook over flames. I look at random ingredients in my fridge and pretend I’m on “Chopped” and fix what I think will be the best possible outcome in 20 minutes.
I’m being influenced by all the cooking and food shows I watch and though it may seem like an oxymoron, cooking for myself is helping me better my relationship with food to combat my overeating.
I plan to make my first gourmet meal with a friend tonight. I told her I want to do something challenging. I’ve already made coconut shrimp from scratch and that made me feel like a master chef.
We also plan to make a cheesecake. That may not be so good for the diet part, but as the nutritionists say, moderation is key.
I think the best part of our dinner is the bonding we’ll have over creating this meal. We’re girls; we want to have girl talk over a glass of wine.
With our work and personal commitments, we haven’t caught each other up on our lives in a while, so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to connect.
And cooking has opened me up while also making me vulnerable because I’m not an expert. I think a good night of conversation and trying something new is the perfect recipe for reflection and growth. Bon appetite.
