Club Notes — March 16

Curry County ARE

The Curry County Association of Retired Educators met at K Bob’s for its March meeting.

Dianne Davis welcomed 30 members and three guests. Wayne Anderson gave the opening prayer. Dick Sullinger led the pledges.

Wayne and Becky Anderson presented the program on their trip to Italy with the ENMU concert choir. The Andersons sang ,“Seek Ye first the Kingdom of God,” written by Karen Lafferty, who accompanied them on the trip.

Minutes and tresure’s reports were approved.

Benevolence Committee report was read by Leslie Scroggins, chairman.

Pam Wallace reported there are 245 local members and 259 NMAER members.

Andrea Bigelow gave a legislative update. The Retiree Healthcare Contribution bill did not pass.

Lynda Milburn and Laura Beth Newberry gave a report on the NMAER executive board.

Members felt the position statement did not oppose the current evaluation system.

John Hays won the door prize.

Next meeting will be April 1.

Beta Phi

Six members and two guests from Beta Phi held its regular meeting March 4 at Taqueria Jalisco.

They enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Collene Baldwin, Sandy Heath, Laura Loflin, Royce and Patsy Lorenz, Beverly Miller, Suzy Moore and Cathy Romero attended.
