Eastern New Mexico senior Isaiah Samoel claimed a third-place finish at the 5,000-meter run Friday during the NCAA Division II indoor track championships, held on the JDL Fast Track at Winston-Salem State University.

Samoei, who hails from Eldoret, Kenya, finished with a school-record time of 14:10.39 and earned All-American status with the top-eight finish. He finished one-10th of a second ahead of Southern Indiana’s Johnnie Guy. Each of the top four finishers beat the previous site record of 14:13.77, set last year by North Carolina-Greensboro’s Paul Katam.

He is scheduled to compete in the 3,000-meter race tonight.
