Dora sophomore Dalton Privett and Escalante's Joseph Hurd scramble for

possession of a loose ball in the first half of the Class 1A state championship quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon at Bernalillo High School. Privett scored nine points in the

contest, a 65-54 overtime defeat. The

Coyotes ended their season at 24-5.

Josh Walker scored 15 points for the fourth-ranked Coyotes (24-5) with Dylan and Dalton Privett added nine points each.

William Hurd and Dominic Montano added 12 points each for the fifth-ranked Lobos (23-3).

“They played well in spurts,” Dora coach Kevin Lackey said about his team, which was making its third-straight trip to the final eight. “My kids played awfully hard. We did everything we could. We had an opportunity at the end of the game, but sometimes it’s just not your day.”

The lead seesawed back in fourth in the last 12 minutes, with Dora having the last chance in regulation time, but an inbounds pass with three seconds left sail out of bounds.

Dora led 27-22 at halftime.
