No injuries reported in base housing fire

A fire at Cannon Air Force Base’s Chaves West Housing Development caused “extensive damage” to both houses in a duplex, Cannon officials said Monday.

No human injuries were reported, according to a Cannon news release, but two dogs and one cat died in the blaze.

The fire began about 8 p.m. Saturday and the base fire department responded and had it contained within 10 minutes, the release said, but both units are uninhabitable.

Cause of the fire is under investigation by the 27 Special Operations Wing’s Fire Prevention Office.

Both families have been relocated onto base lodging, officials said.
