Senior point guard Jestin Watson has been a key player for the Dora Coyotes, which starts play in the Class 1A boys state basketball playoffs against Capitan.

What are the keys to victory versus Capitan?

Boxing out is huge. We’ve got to be able to get rebounds. Shooting the ball a little bit better will help us, and defensively we’ve got to keep the ball in front of us. Dylan (Privett) is one of the top posts in the state, so we’ve got to use him any way we can. They run a lot of zone and they got a big guy too who is dang good.

Did you see LeBron score 61 points earlier this week? What’s the most you’ve scored in high school and who do you predict to win the NBA Finals?

No, I didn’t get to watch it, but I caught the highlights. That was crazy, that was insane. I’ve never had a game like that. I think the most points I’ve ever scored was 26, I think.

In the Finals I think the Heat will take it. The Spurs are looking good. Tim Duncan is still doing playing well so I think them or the Thunder will play the Heat, but the Heat will win.

What else are you involved in at school? Any clubs? What are your college plans?

I’m in Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, and Business Professionals of America. My grade point average is a 3.3 and I’m going to go to South Plains College to get a diesel mechanic degree.

I also played football this past fall, and I used to play baseball and run track, but I have a hip injury so I’m just focused on basketball right now.
