Editor’s note: This feature is the forty-sixth in a series of Air Commando spotlights at Cannon. The Airmen being highlighted are recent Diamond Sharp Award winners. Diamond Sharp is a monthly program where airmen are recognized by wing leadership and first sergeants for their hard work and achievements.
Airman 1st Class Christopher J. Smith 727th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron avionics systems apprentice has a simple, but effective, mantra that has won him recognition by his leadership: “just get the job done.”
“Airman Smith is a great performer,” said Master Sgt. Jeremy Sparkman, 727th SOAMXS section chief. “He never complains and always puts the mission first. He’s great at his job and he’s well rounded.”
Smith uses his time outside of the shop to volunteer on base by selling breakfast burritos with his unit, or to enjoy bowling, softball, and woodworking.
In the shop, he has made the best of a multilateral tasking to Georgia, where he represented the Air Force while working on a CV-22 Osprey among Soldiers and Marines.
“He’s a top-notch CV-22 maintainer,” said Sparkman. “He’s a humble guy, and definitely mission-oriented.”
Smith completed his Career Development Courses ahead of schedule and achieved journeyman status in nine months. He has begun working towards a Community College of the Air Force degree, and will use his maintenance skills to receive credit for the college-level examination program.
