Robert Hawkins, 24, was incorrectly identified by officers as being 43, according to Portales Police Chief Pat Gallegos.
Gallegos said he’s unsure how his officers received the incorrect date of birth for Hawkins, whose age was incorrect on the initial court documents alleging the crimes.
Gallegos said the error was fixed Friday and the charges were filed again.
Hawkins remained in the Roosevelt County Detention Center as of Friday afternoon on a $15,000 cash only bond.
