Portales (12-11, 1-1 District 4-3A) at Lovington (11-13, 2-1)

Last meeting: Lovington broke away from a halftime tie to post a 50-44 win at the RAC last Tuesday.

Last time out: The Lovington game was the last one for Portales. The Wildcats on Friday avenged an earlier district loss at Ruidoso by routing the Warriors 61-40 at home.

Of note: A win clinches the district regular-season title and top seed in next week’s district tourney for Lovington, which is playing its final regular-season game. … Senior G Quantel Nash scored 18 points while 6-foor-8 junior P Stephen Lennox added 10 for Lovington in last week’s win over the Rams. Senior P Zach Campbell topped PHS with 10 points. … This is only the sixth home game for Lovington (3-2). The Wildcats are 7-10 in true road games. … Lovington is 1-7 against Class 4A and 5A teams, while the Rams are 2-3.

GIRLS

Portales (19-3, 1-1 District 4-3A) at Lovington (20-4, 3-0)

When: 5:30 p.m. today

Last meeting: Lovington beat Portales 45-33 last week at the RAC. Earlier this season, the Lady Rams posted a 48-42 win over Lovington in a tourney at Denver City.

Last time out: PHS hasn’t played since its loss to Lovington. The Lady Wildcats on Friday dismantled Ruidoso 51-12.

Of note: Despite last week’s loss, PHS is still No. 1 in the Maxpreps.com Class 3A girls poll this week, while Lovington is No. 2. … Senior G Jocelyn Jeffery scored 25 points in last week’s win at PHS, including 16-of-16 on FTs. The Lady Wildcats went 20-of-22 from the line overall. Sophomore F Kambrey Blakey led PHS with 15 points, but the Lady Rams shot just 10-of-23 on FTs.… Portales is 8-1 on the road, 6-1 on neutral courts and 5-1 at home this year. The Lady Wildcats are 5-2 at home, 12-1 on the road and 3-1 on neutral courts, losing twice to Class 5A No. 1 Clovis and once to Class 5A No. 3 Hobbs (45-44).
