Former Melrose coaches under investigation

Two Melrose coaches have resigned amid an investigation by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, according to Superintendent Jamie Widner.

Undersheriff Wesley Waller said reports to the sheriff’s office allege that the former coaches had unlawful relationships with students.

“Curry County Sheriff's investigators are currently investigating allegations against two former contract coaches for the Melrose Schools,” Waller said in an email. “Neither of these individuals are still employed by the school.”

The coaches, which Widner did not name, resigned around Dec. 1 and on Feb. 10, he said.

Waller said the investigation into the claims is active and ongoing.
