Last meeting: Jan. 25, the Rams handed the Wolverines their first loss of the season 61-52 at the RAC.

Last time out: Both teams played on Saturday, with Portales routing New Mexico Military 65-25 at home and Texico notching a 73-66 district victory at Santa Rosa.

Of note: Portales comes in ranked sixth in Class 3A while the Wolverines, coached by former Lovington assistant Scott Karger, continue at No. 1 in Class 2A. … Senior F Daniel Sanchez led three Rams in double figures in the earlier meeting with 18 points, but he has missed the last three games with an ankle injury. Senior G Miguel Reyna had 18 points for the Wolverines, while senior P Jonah Walls added 14. … PHS begins its four-game District 4-3A slate on Friday at home against Ruidoso.

Last time out: Portales won at Roswell Goddard 62-28 on Friday, while Texico claimed a 54-38 district win at Santa Rosa on Saturday.

Of note: For the second time, the game matches top-ranked teams — Portales in Class 3A, Texico in 2A. … The Lady Rams raced to a 33-15 halftime lead in the earlier meeting and cruised behind a balanced attack led by 16 points from sophomore F Kambrey Blakey and 11 from senior PG Francis Armijo. Sophomore F Brianna Reyna had 18 points for the Lady Wolverines. … Portales’ losses have been to the top two teams in Class 5A, Clovis and Mayfield. Texico’s other losses were to Class 3A No. 2 Lovington, Class 1A No. 1 Tatum and three Texas squads — Farwell, Denver City and Wellington — who have combined for more than 50 wins.
