Last time out: The Greyhounds extended their winning streak to three and moved into a four-way tie for second behind TSU in the Lone Star Conference by edging Texas A&M-Commerce 83-78 on Wednesday at Greyhound Arena. The Texans, ranked fourth in NCAA Division II, drubbed West Texas A&M 87-63 the same night at Canyon, Texas.

Last year: The teams split in the regular season, ENMU pulling out a 59-56 win at home on G Rodney Blackmon’s last-second 3-pointer, while TSU posted a 71-58 victory at Stephenville. Tarleton then eliminated the Hounds from the LSC tournament with a 72-59 victory in the quarterfinals.

Of note: Prior to this season, the Texans had never started better than 7-0. With a win, they can equal the school record winning streak of 17 set in 1990-91 and matched two years ago. … Tarleton has started the same five in every game so far. … TSU leads the all-time series 32-8. … This is the first of three consecutive home games for Tarleton, which has won 16 in a row at home (11-0 this season) dating to a 71-62 loss to Cameron in January 2013. … The Texans, who have scored at least 75 points in every game, rank in the top 10 in Division II in six categories, and lead in 12 of 19 categories tracked by the LSC. They average nearly 90 ppg and allow roughly 62. … The team’s closest games were an 83-81 win at Midwestern State, a 75-71 victory over Central Washington at Las Vegas, Nev., and a 79-68 home triumph over South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. ENMU owns a 68-63 win at Mines, and hosts the Hardrockers next Thursday. … TSU leaders are 6-foot senior G Chuck Guy (16.9 ppg, 90 percent FTs, 5.7 apg, 28 steals), 6-2 senior G DeAndre Upchurch (14.2 ppg, 85 percent FTs) and 6-6 junior F Tashawn Mabry (11.6 ppg, 48 percent 3-point FGs). All 15 of Mabry’s appearances have been off the bench. … Only three Texans are averaging 20 minutes a game, led by Guy (28.1).

Women

Last time out: The Zias had their three-game winning streak snapped by Texas Woman’s 78-66 on Thursday at Greyhound Arena. The TexAnns lost at No. 7 West Texas A&M, the LSC leader, 82-60 on Wednesday.

Last year: TSU swept the Zias, ekeing out a 63-61 win at Portales and then blowing them out 96-58 at Stephenville.

Of note: The TexAnns, ranked 17th in NCAA Division II, come in on a two-game losing streak. They suffered their first home loss in 10 games this season against Cameron, a 69-64 decision last Saturday. … Like the men’s team, the TexAnns have had the same starters every game. … Tarleton has quite possibly the best player in the league in 6-1 senior C Kiara Wright (20.1 ppg, 65 percent FGs, 12.0 rpg, 39 steals), while other key performers include 5-8 senior G Briana Bledsoe (12.4 ppg, 49 assists) and 5-7 junior G Kathy Thomas (11.1 ppg, 54 percent FGs, 53 percent 3-pointers). Wright and Bledsoe are the only seniors on the roster while Thomas, who is 29-for-55 from distance, is a transfer from the University of Iowa. … Wright has led the team in scoring 11 times this season, and tied for the lead in two other games. … Tarleton has won the last 13 matchups against the Zias, and leads the all-time series 26-12.
