Club Notes - June 2

Encanto Garden Club

Encanto Garden Club held a meeting May 22 at Jeanne Augenstein's Melrose home.

Augustein gave a tour of her established southwestern landscaping.

Raised vegetable beds have been constructed throughout her property incorporated with various drip systems.

Being a "master gardener. Augenstein's property is continually a work in progress and this year chickens will be a part of the new project.

President Jacque Wuest presided over the business meeting, introducing Barbara Smith of Melrose as a guest.

The meeting included preliminary plans for the club's participation in the Curry County Fair Home Economics Division and member, Carmen Gilchrist was appointed as superintendent of the flower show.

A program was presented by co-hostess, Lori Frazier, in the making of homemade laundry soap. Besides being "green" to the environment it is less costly than commercial products.

The next meeting will be 9:30 a.m. June 12 at Muffley's Back Door in Clovis.

Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary

The Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary met May 15 in the Fred Anthony Conference Room at RGH.

President Linda Uttaro opened the meeting with prayer.

The minutes and treasurer reports were accepted as given. Attention was noted for $77 in credit card sales for April.

Sid Phillips, chair of the nominating committee, reported her committee will bring a slate of officers to the September general meeting/luncheon.

The election of new officers will then be for the term 2014-2015.

Members on the committee are Wanda Martinez, Billie Raether, Pat Watson, Madeen Casey and Beverly Baugh. Amber Hamilton, RGH Liason, reported on the Mammography Suite.

The auxiliary approved $1,000 for the items at the April meeting. The next meeting will be in the September General meeting/luncheon, date and place will be announced in the September Heartbeat.

Daughters of the American Revolution

The El Portal Chapter of DAR met May 11 at the home of Nancy Bauder.

Correspondence from the Veterans Hospital Patio of Honor was presented.

Pam Wallace has agreed to be chief mentor and will be available to help in all areas upon request.

A motion was made to have the June 14 meeting on Flag Day at 10 a.m. at the home of Vicky Stratton.

Outgoing Chapter Chaplain Linda Baldock led installation of new officers.

New officers are Vicky Stratton, Chapter Regent and Registrar, Karolyn Sailor, Vice Regent, Treasurer Nancy Bauder, Recording Secretary Sandy Hays, Historian Jessie Strauch-Steele, Chaplain Carolyn Thompson.

A motion was made after the installation of new officers that Pam Wallace becomes an Honorary Past Chapter Regent. The vote was unanimous.

She joins Jessie Strauch-Steele, Carol Nash, and Wanda Dunn in this position.
