Zias softball coach resigns after four seasons

Eastern New Mexico University softball coach Lauren Sigwing has announced her resignation after four seasons at the school.

Sigwing, who came to ENMU from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College in 2010, posted a 58-154 overall record, including 19-73 in Lone Star Conference play.

Sigwing's 18-player roster in 2013 included only one senior and two juniors.

The Zias were 14-42 in 2013, including 6-21 in the LSC, but in each of the last two seasons the Zias faced Cameron in the final regular-season series with an LSC tournament berth on the line.

Needing to sweep the series last season at Zia Softball Field, the Zias took a doubleheader on Friday before dropping the finale 5-3 the following day. This year, at Lawton, Okla., the Zias went in needing to win two of three but were swept by the Aggies.

ENMU athletic director Jeff Geiser said Sigwing decided to move on for "personal reasons."

"We're going to miss her," Geiser said. "It felt like with the team she had coming back that they were on the verge of breaking out."

Geiser said the school is currently taking applications for the position and plans to begin reviewing them on May 20.

"I anticipate having a good list of candidates," Geiser said.

Attempts to contact Sigwing by phone on Thursday were unsuccessful.
