Hounds improve to 11-1 with sweep

Eastern New Mexico University's baseball team is off to the best start in the program's history, and it's pretty obvious why — solid hitting and clutch pitching.

The Greyhounds got a five-inning relief outing from senior right-hander Ryan Pruitt in winning the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Metro State 6-4 at Greyhound Field, improving to 11-1 for the season.

In the opener, senior Luis Quinones went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as ENMU notched a 10-4 win over the Roadrunners (3-5). The teams complete their four-game series with a noon start today.

ENMU has fallen behind in the first inning of all three games against Metro, but the Hounds haven't stayed behind for long.

In Saturday's opener, run-scoring singles by Peter Creamer and Derek Crenshaw erased a 1-0 Roadrunners' lead in the bottom of the first, and the Hounds never looked back.

ENMU finished the game with 15 hits, with Creamer, Brooke Brooks, Colton Sims, Ryan Forkel and Andres Enriquez each adding two behind Quinones. Creamer and Enriquez each drove in a pair of runs.

Brian Kennedy (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Aaron Anderson, going four innings and allowing six hits and three runs.

The Hounds scored five runs in the second for a 5-2 lead in the nightcap, getting run-scoring singles from Brooks and Creamer and an RBI double from Sims. Metro third baseman Andrew Paust hit a two-run homer off Pruitt in the third, but he blanked the Roadrunners the rest of the way on three hits.

Brooks and Quinones each finished the day with five hits. In the nightcap, Brooks went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Quinones was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single in the fourth.
