Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
One of our fondest memories is that of our youngest son playing his trumpet in the Portales High School marching band. When the band played "Rambo" everyone became excited especially me. All I wanted to hear was the trumpets. I wanted to get out there and cheer the football game.
I have found out why I love the trumpets so. In Bible times ram horns were mostly used as trumpets. There are so many references about trumpets in the Bible. Trumpets were blown when kings were proclaimed and other important biblical events. I counted in my concordance and found over 100 scriptures that mentioned trumpets. I think God must have liked trumpets too. Here are two of my favorites scriptures about trumpets:
"And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other" (Matthew 24:31 (KJV).
Another scripture is Matthew 24:31. "He will use a loud trumpet to send his angels all around the earth, and they will gather his chosen people from every part of the world." (NCV).
The trumpets playing in ancient times reminded Israel of God's protection.
I love to read about Joshua. The Canaanites were against God and Joshua obeyed God's instructions.
Joshua led his "mighty men of valour" to go around the city with seven priests blowing seven trumpets of rams' horns. The seventh day they blew the trumpets and the city crumbled.
"When the priests blew the trumpets, the people shouted. At the sound of the trumpets and shouts the walls fell. The Israelites defeated the city. (6:20…(NCV)
I think the people in Bible times must have loved the trumpets too. I love to hear trumpets anywhere they are.
Lane still has his trumpet. It's kind of a treasure. Whenever I see a blue sky with beautiful clouds I like to make photos in my mind and then I remember Jesus is coming in the clouds.
"Jesus said, "I am, and you will see me sitting at the right hand of God, and returning to earth in the clouds of heaven" (Mark 14:62, TLB).
That's why I love trumpets.
I have a friend who lives close to the air base. Each night she can hear a trumpet being used tp play "Taps." It's twilight and everything is quiet except the trumpet. To me something happens at twilight when a trumpet plays "Taps."
One day God's trumpet will sound, announcing the arrival of Jesus, our King. Those in him will be caught up into the heavenlies where we will live with him forever.
Oh happy day.
Let's listen for the sound of the trumpet.
