Letter to the editor: Thankful for years spent in Clovis

Thank you, Clovis, for 40 wonderful years.

We will soon be leaving to be near our grandchildren in California.

The Air Force brought us here to be assigned to Cannon.

We have always lived in town and our boys attended the schools and received a very good education.

They were involved in sports, church and scouting and received the rank of Eagle Scout.

The leadership and coaching was always above average.

My wife, Marion, drove a school bus for 28 years and I was a scout master for 12 years. We always enjoyed working with the young people. I enjoyed volunteering at Barry Elementary School for eight years.

It really makes us sad to be leaving Clovis but we want to see our grandchildren more often as they are growing up.

I want to thank so many people here in the Clovis area for being so good to my family these past 40 years. We love this town and hesitate to leave, but the grandkids grow so fast.

I wish the very best for Clovis as it continues to grow and improve. Thank you for a wonderful life.

Some desperately in need of health care

I'm so thankful that my husband and I have wonderful medical insurance, which pays most of our medical expenses. But I do understand there are many in the community, through no fault of their own, who do not have funds to purchase adequate health insurance for their families.

I wonder where Glenda Bly thinks the Medicaid recipients she referred to in her recent letter ("Health care up to individual" in Thursday's CNJ) spend their money?

They buy food, autos, gasoline, clothing, etc., at retailers in the community. Those retailers hire workers, order supplies, have company vehicles that have to be serviced, etc., and they pay taxes to both the state and federal governments.

Yes, there are some who cheat the system, but those types will always be among us so we shouldn't penalize those in need because of a few miscreants.
