Lady Wolverines finish sixth

ALBUQUERQUE — The Texico Lady Wolverines cut 26 strokes off their first-day total and moved up one spot to sixth at 430-404 — 834 in the Class 1A-3A girls state golf tournament at the UNM championship course.

Senior Megan Long led the Lady Wolverines on Tuesday with a 45-48 — 93, finishing at 200 for 36 holes, while junior Laura McFarden shot 47-48 — 95 and ended at 192.

"I was tickled," Texico coach Kristen Scanlan said of the team's improvement. "That was our goal going in. The wind wasn't as bad as (Monday), and that helped."

Socorro cruised to team honors at 666, with Bosque second at 718 and Portales third at 762. Socorro's Kristen Cline took medalist honors at 77-74 — 151.
