The Portales gate of Cannon Air Force Base on New Mexico Highway 467 was closed shortly before 10 a.m. today due to a substance found leaking from a vehicle, according to a press release on the Cannon website.
CAFB and Curry County emergency personnel responded to the scene and are investigating. A 4,000-foot cordon has been established around the area as a safety precaution, according to the release.
The Portales gate was re-opened at 11:30 a.m. and personnel and visitors are allowed to use the entrance, but should be aware of temporary delays due to backed-up traffic.
According to the release, the incident was safely resolved with it being determined "the leaking fluid was non-hazardous (most likely antifreeze)."
