Curry County Cats football capsule

Alamogordo Desert Dawgs (1-2, 1-1 NM PremierLeague vs. Curry County Cats (4-2, 2-0)

2 p.m. today, Leon Williams Stadium

Records: Alamo 1-2 (1-1 NM Premier League), Curry County 4-2 (2-0).

Last week: The Cats pulled out a 29-27 victory Sunday over the El Paso Raiders. The Desert Dawgs suffered a 24-17 loss against the Las Cruces Kings.

Last meeting: 2011, Curry County won 35-14.

Alamogordo players to watch: RB Steven Gee, WR Antonio Walker. "They're a bit more athletic; they've got some good-looking receivers," Cats coach Paul Lopez said. "Defensively, they're about the same as last year. They spread the ball around and throw it around more."

Notables: Running back Manuel Robles will be sidelined with an ankle injury. Lopez is assuming Robles will also miss the Cats' following two games — April 15 against El Paso at home and April 28 at Alamogordo — and play May 5 against Las Cruces. Until then, the Cats will rely on Brian Mead and Lamont Dixon. ... Lopez said the key to the game will be the turnover battle. He noted that the Cats had 11 turnovers combined in their two losses, but just had two in Sunday's win. "If we can take care of the ball offensively, we'll be good."
