Irish tradition will come to Clovis on Wednesday, when the Cathie Ryan Band will perform in a 7 p.m. show at the Clovis Civic Center.

The show is part of Clovis Community College’s Cultural Arts Series. Tickets are available at the CCC cashier window, the Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce office or the Cannon Air Force Base ITT Office. Tickets are $22 general admission, $17 for students, military and senior citizens.

Ryan, born in Detroit to Irish parents, has released four albums and is featured on more than 40 Celtic compilation albums. She will be accompanied by guitar player and vocalist Patsy O’Brien and fiddle player Patrick Mangan.

“It is very human music, about emotions and feelings and people,” Ryan said. “It is not hard to understand or respond to. It hits you in the heart.”

Mangan, a Brookly, N.Y. native, performed fiddle on Riverdance when he was 16. O’Brien is an award-winning songwriter with three albums of his own.

Ryan who resides in rural Ireland when not on tour, said she and her band are looking forward to performing in Clovis.

“The qualities of Clovis sound very similar to those found in Ireland and Irish America,” Ryan said. “Comunity is very important to the Irish; helping each other and knowing that you are part of something bigger than yourself.”

The Cultural Arts Series is presented by CCC and The Citizens Bank of Clovis.
